The first round of the annual writing contest sponsored by BookLife and Publishers Weekly kicks off April 1.

The BookLife Prize is back and and looking for the next great novel.

Now in its fourth year, the BookLife Prize—a writing contest sponsored by Publishers Weekly and BookLife—will be accepting submissions for its Fiction Contest from April 1 to August 31, 2019.

Authors may enter unpublished or self-published novels in five categories: Romance/Erotica; Mystery/Thriller; Science Fiction/Fantasy/Horror; General Fiction; and YA/Middle-Grade.

All entrants will receive a Critic’s Report, a brief critical assessment of their book written by a Publishers Weekly reviewer; the grand-prize winner will receive a $5,000 writing stipend and be profiled in Publishers Weekly. Additionally, the finalists from each category will receive a social media marketing package from BookBaby worth $1,000.

Last year's BookLife Prize-winner was the YA novel Ray vs. the Meaning of Life by Michael F. Stewart, who said winning had given him a sense of validation.

"When I entered, it wasn’t with winning in mind," he said. "One of the best parts of the Booklife Prize is that you can win at every level, whether it’s a good critique from a Publishers Weekly reviewer or a blurb from a respected author. It’s validating on what can be a lonely journey, but also useful for marketing."
