Joan M. Wolk was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and holds master's degrees in art history, psychology, and library and information science. She was awarded the University of Pittsburgh Exchange Fellowship and a Fulbright grant to study art history and German literature at the University of Bonn. She has published on Max Beckmann and Franz Kafka. Her special interest is interdisciplinary research.
