Joseph was born in Long Island, New York and has lived across the United States and Canada. His interests are traveling, photography, writing, politics, film, and pop-culture.
He holds an M.A. in Linguistics from University of British Columbia, a B.A. double major in Linguistics & Russian (with honors) from University of Arizona, and an A.A.S. in Information Systems from Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College.
His undergraduate honors thesis titled: "Boris Akunin’s 'novyi detektiv' Genre in Modern Russian Literature: Innovation and Success" explored contemporary author Boris Akunin’s Erast Fandorin detective fiction series, and discussed where his work fits in relation regarding mass literature vs. serious literature in Russia.
