Lundy Bancroft has written several non-fiction books prior to In Custody. He is best- known as the author of Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men, which has sold a half-million copies and is available in over a dozen languages. His most recent release, from 2019, is The Joyous Recovery: A New Approach to Emotional Healing and Wellness. That book spawned the development of the Peak Living Network, which Lundy coordinates.
Lundy’s other titles on abuse, trauma, and recovery include Daily Wisdom for ‘Why Does He Do That’ (a collection of 365 short inspirational pieces for abused women), Should I Stay or Should I Go (with JAC Patrissi), The Batterer as Parent (winner of the 2004 literary award from the North American Resource Center For Child Welfare), and When Dad Hurts Mom: Helping Your Children Heal the Wounds of Witnessing Abuse. Lundy is the former Training Director of Emerge, the nation’s first counseling program for abusive men.
Lundy’s primary interest outside of his writing is social justice and environmental activism, where he focuses on the climate crisis and labor issues. He is also an avid rock climber, competitive baseball player and sprinter, and barely passable hockey player. Opportunities may also arise to hear Lundy sing and play the guitar, in which case it’s best to make an excuse why you need to be someplace else.
In Custody was released in August of last year. It is Lundy’s first novel. He is currently beginning work on the sequel to In Custody. He also has two other books in process, a humorous look at the world of self-help and a rant on oppression and social change.
