Michael A. Kroll is an award-winning journalist and writer who has been widely published in newspapers from The New York Times to the Los Angeles Times, and in magazines including The Nation, Progressive Magazine and the Utne Reader. His memoir pieces have appeared in the Ojai Quarterly (“McCarthyism Goes Postal”) and Trajectory Journal (“Land Snakes Alive”). His book-length memoir, Beijing and Beyond, chronicles a 1981 tour of China’s coming-of-age criminal justice system. His first novel, Soul of the Matter, earned a Finalist designation in the 2022 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. He also conducts weekly writing workshops in SF Bay Area Juvenile Halls.
