In 1990 Mike MacCarthy founded San Diego Writers Monthly for which he served as Publisher/Editor for this award-winning publication until 2003. In 1998, MacCarthy received an award from the San Diego Writers and Editors Guild for writing excellence. Between 1994 and 2003, he collaborated on several nonfiction and fiction books, one published by Prentice Hall and one by Delacorte. Until December 2015 he served as Editor-in-Chief of InterACT, a quarterly newsletter for the Association of Christian Therapists (ACTheals).
He fell in love with Joan of Arc in the hospital at age nine and has since spent so much time reading, writing, and speaking about her that his wife of 35 years now lovingly calls Joan “the other woman” in his life.
As a result of his lifelong fascination, Mike began research for Maiden General in 1999. Since then, his reviews of books, movies, and TV series about Jehanne d’Arc have appeared on Amazon.com and the Saint Joan of Arc Center website: http://stjoan-center.com. During the past 10 years, he has also made numerous presentations about Jehanne d’Arc before civic clubs, church groups, and special interest groups such as Toastmasters and Mensa. He still welcomes invitations to speak about Joan. “Except for Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I continue to believe that La Pucelle is the most incredible human being I’ve read about,” Mike adds. “These four would be the ones I’d most love to have dinner with some day.”
Since January of 2012, he has maintained a blog (http://godsmaidengeneral.tumblr.com/) and Facebook page about Maiden General where he has received enthusiastic support and interest from readers all around the world. Interested readers can discover the details of his new historical fiction novel about Joan of Arc entitled Maiden General: How17-year old Joan of Arc Saved France at Orleans--A True Story at: www.mikemaccarthy.com.
