Yes, it’s true that I once gave a class to my 5th-year medical students dressed as a duck (quack). And for good reason, really (I wanted to attract sleepy, lunch-heavy 22-year-old students to a dry topic). But it was a long time ago. And it’s become the most commonly cited “interesting fact” about me.

So, in the hope that I may eventually be remembered for something other than the duck story, here are a few other things I’ve done…​

Acted in various plays while studying drama, including playing Othello minus black-face, in semi-packed theatres in my home town. My acting career was deservedly buried after that but was the spark that got me interested in a writing career (playwriting).

Asked my partner for her hand in marriage after 13 years and 4 kids. We rushed out during our lunch break to tie the knot and celebrated over coffee. This is a ‘romantic’ credential?

I like wine quite a lot but don’t drink.

Ghostwritten three novels and three novellas of erotic female fiction.

Did a PhD – feel free to address me as Doctor. Or not. Still less qualified than my partner WHO IS A CHRONIC OVERACHIEVER. And a real medical doctor.

I’m ultimately an optimist.
