Victress Hitchcock grew up in London, Paris and Madrid as the daughter of a diplomat. After graduation from the London Film School in 1972, she embarked on a forty-five year career as a filmmaker – writing, directing, editing and producing award winning documentary and educational films, which took her to challenging communities across the United States and as far away as Tibet. Her last two films Blessings: The Tsoknyi Nangchen Nuns of Tibet and When the Iron Bird Flies: Tibetan Buddhism Arrives in the West are available on Amazon Prime. After retiring from filmmaking, she began writing full time¾poetry, creative non-fiction and screenplays. In 2019, she took a big leap and began writing a memoir. A Tree With My Name On It: Finding a Way Home is being published by Bold Story Press for release in October, 2024.
Victress teaches writing and contemplation workshops, travels and spends time with her children and grandchildren. She is a longtime meditator in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and was ordained as a Buddhist teacher by Anam Thubten.
