My book, The Bloodline: The Doberman Family, is for children and adults who love pets. This is a thrilling, adventure tale which follows Lily, a brave Doberman mother dog who sets out to rescue her family of cute puppies from a life of drudgery and danger, a life of hate and fear as junkyard dogs. The mother dog’s first challenge is to convince her mate, Buck, to give up what he thinks is a noble profession (junkyard dog) and to recognize that he has been programed to hate and fear with no reason—a parallel to prejudice in our human world. Once Buck understands, he becomes the mother dog’s greatest ally in their escape. During the family’s escape wandering the streets of Phoenix and Northern Arizona, they meet many interesting animals who may remind you of people you have known. During their time on the streets, the family encounters challenges which they overcome with the help of their innovative thinking and their animal friends. What makes the book unique is that the Doberman who “stars” in the book is not a big, old lovable lump of Doberman such as Hershey or Good Dog, Carl--Dobermans who are portrayed as the protectors of children. These dogs evidence no anger or determination. In my book, Lily the Doberman is a courageous mother dog who braves trials and tribulations to give her offspring a better life. In that regard, she is much more like the three animal heroes of THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY.
