If you love science, adventure, and romance, this book is for you. The author combines all three in a historical novel about the 1860s western expansion and the golden age of paleontology. Well researched with a handy map of the protagonists' travels. Very well written, a great first novel!
I have always enjoyed historical fiction and science, but had no knowledge of this story until I read this book. It’s well paced and I didn’t want to put it down. It stands out for me additionally because the author assumes her reader actually has some intelligence and more than a 6th grade reading ability. What a refreshing difference!
I am really looking forward to books 2 and 3, which I will buy the minute they come out.
A friend of mine recommended this book and I'm very glad he did. I've been in many museums where different dinosaurs and other fossils are displayed but my feeble mind has a hard time imagining a time when these creatures walked the earth millions and millions of years ago. I have the same problem with the universe--can't wrap my head around that either. The other thing that I didn't think much about is the process and effort it took for that museum to have that display. This book answers that question. It's a story of a good guy and a bad guy. The good guy is torn between his love of the work, his family, and even a long lost love. The bad guy? When you read the book, you'll figure it out pretty quick. In addition to the author's extensive knowledge about paleontology and geography, the story is captivating and very well written. Her description of sunrises, sunsets, and even dust storms are like experiencing them yourself. I also was impressed with her knowledge of the way people interacted during the time right before and after the Civil War. Five stars and looking forward to book two.
