A young girl named Moeera sees the Wondrous Wecks' magic show and decides that she wants to be a magic user too. Her mother and father are killed by an evil blood witch. Moeera eludes the witch and runs away. She meets an old witch named Carrie whose husband changes back and forth from human to gander. Carrie begins formally training Moeera as her apprentice witch. The evil blood witch Izzpalin remains on Moeera's trail.
