The story opens on September 11, 2001, inside the World Trade Center. The protagonist, PRETENSE ABDICATOR, a quirky, yet brilliant financial consultant, is escorted to a meeting with the FBI and charged with embezzlement. But when a plane strikes the North Tower, she manages to escape with her life and over $2 million dollars stashed in an offshore bank account. She flees to the island of Koh Samui in Thailand to live her dream life under the alias CLAIRE VOYANT. But despite her wealth, something is missing. What once seemed important no longer satisfies when she discovers the true meaning of friendship and love. In a desperate attempt to untangle her web of lies, her life spins out of control.
