This book is full of different cultures, lifestyles and countries. I love the way it is easy to read and helps you understand diversities, differences but how we are alike. We are all proud of who we are and where we come from so it’s an important learning book. Would of loved a map so I could visualize where everyone is versus where I am. Great short stories filled with easy to understand writing. Great for kids wanting learn about diversity, cultures, and countries.
This is book six in the author’s “I am proud” series, available as eBook, paperback, and hardcover. It consists of one- to two-page autobiographical vignettes with national highlights of youths from 19 different countries or states of the USA. The author’s expressed purpose is to show we’re all alike though varying in language, religion, customs, and colors. She informs readers that her characters—the youths—are fictitious, though inspired by real people. The countries and states are genuine; for example, Benin, Chile, Czech Republic, Fiji, and so forth, on to Wisconsin. The book is organized alphabetically by location name. Each vignette comprises what reads like text to a stranger in the USA from an intelligent, well-educated, and friendly youth along with colorful photos of national flags, native peoples, and activities in their daily lives. The vignettes are similar, all well written and edited.
This book is a good idea and easy way to introduce diversity to children. It's one of those books every family with children should have in their home. The stories can make for quick bedtime reading or an easy reading-time assignment. The book reads fast to keep children's attention. Nice job.
