Having 30 years experience in early childhood and an accredited center owner, I found Jesse to be a powerful resource to teach self accountablity, self awareness, and emotional maturity. Jesse offers a simple and easy presentation in class to discuss feelings. Children love Jesse and as he changes colors it gives a practical way to identify emotion, in an abstract way. The boys especially like that Jesse is a boy and this breaks the paradigm, giving all children permission to feel.
"As a parent, educator, and literacy specialist, I always search for well-written children’s books that are both entertaining and engaging while, at the same time, teach significant life lessons. That’s why I fell in love with Jodi Dee’s stories."
A colleague had given us the Jesse books this this summer. I have been using them with the kindergarteners, who absolutely love them!
JESSE TRUE'S FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL is a great book to show children the fun and excitement of sharing true feelings through vibrant color. A fun, interactive book that promises to gain the series many fans as they follow Jesse and his sister, Jillian, through many future adventures. Recommended.
The production values are well done. The illustrations are friendly and clear. I like the vibrant colors, which are of course the point of the book! Jesse himself is on the cover, and I want to read about this appealing boy. I think both boys and girls will want to read about him, too. I am glad that Jillian is being introduced as well, because I think she will encourage girls to become big fans of the series. The back cover copy is great for adults to understand the intent of the book and the series. I think it's a great idea that we learn about additional books and free downloads here. Great marketing! However, I think another picture for visual appeal would have been good here. Nice to see an endorsement.
All in all, a great idea, though! Nice work. I love colors and the creative use of colors. I'd buy this book for the children in my life.
