I thought ‘Luminary’ was a really unique read. I liked the premise that combining soul mates is the way to bring more magic into the world. This is the first YA fantasy that I’ve read in a while, but now that I’ve spent a little time with the seemingly intangible Paragons in Luminary, I’m getting that all-to-familiar itch to delve back into the genre with full force.

It’s easy to see from her writing that PS Meraux is well-read in the types of captivating stories that pull the reader into their world. I felt a certain connection with Emily Wren, which gave me a vested interest in her happiness and the larger impacts for magic in the world in general.

I also have to say that it is so refreshing to find a book as part of a series that is actually full-length. Meraux doesn’t cut the off in the middle to convince us to read on, unlike so many authors.

Luminary is not your typical romance novel by any means, but that doesn't mean it isn't the kind of love story that's going to change you and shape you. This book follows the story of a girl named Emily Wren. There are two people in this world destined to be with Emily- two different soul mates reside on this earth. Unfortunately, Emily never gets the chance to meet either of them. Each of them pass away prior to walking into Emily's life. Beyond the realm of earthly reality that we know there are supernatural ways taking place- helping to match soul mates in order to release a magic into the world. And so the story begins- will Emily Wren find love, afte rall- even after the untimely losses of both of her soul mates?

It's its entirely own piece and I've never really come across something like it before. I loved the concept of a young woman who's fate involved two people who passed away- and yet things beyond her realm of understanding are still working to ensure that she and her new soul mate can meet. Most romance stories don't have suspense- they don't have a wondering of 'are these two people going to find eachother and fall in love- is everything going to be okay?'. This story has that though, it has his sense of wondering as you drift from page to page. There are unanswered questions. It's not a drama or a typical romance. It's not a story that just gives you butterflies and then leaves you alone. This book captures your attention and keeps you curious the entire way through. It forces you to keep reading and it's impossible to put down.

This book was very well-written and the main character, Emily Wren was someone I immediately connected with. The book did a great way of developing her character in a way that is going to appeal to almost any young woman. Her story is unique, but she as a person is very relatable. The entire book was just an overall lovely read. I've never read anything like it- which I think always makes books better in my mind. It was a different storyline, but one that worked, and one that I'm definitely a fan of.
