No Small Thing is a collection of poetry centred around the home, housework, family and parenthood. It tackles the physical and emotional endurance required to build and maintain a home, to raise a child.
In these poems, written after becoming a father, the poet explores the shifting terrain of parenthood. He also captures in minute detail the experience of household tasks such as cleaning a room, cooking, washing dishes, laundry and removing ashes from a fire. Some poems touch on construction/DIY work, the fears of a parent and many other themes related to the family and home.
Much of this collection was written during the global coronavirus pandemic, when we were confined to our homes and unable to see family or friends. As a direct result of this, No Small Thing celebrates such relationships and the space in which we live.
