Progeny is a work of fiction in the thriller genre and serves as the latest installment in the Sam McKay series. It is aimed at the mature reading audience and was penned by K. M. Hardy. The book continues the story of Sampson Angus McKay, a detective who is approached by an old friend to help hunt down a long-running serial killer. Together with a team assembled by Chief Humbar to hunt the killer, Sam must take on the most challenging case of his career to date as he chases down one of the most dangerous criminals he has had the misfortune to cross paths with.
A classic tale of cat and mouse kept fresh with engaging character dynamics and a rollercoaster plot filled with twists, turns, and edge-of-your-seat moments, Progeny is a worthy continuation of Sam McKay’s story that expands upon the successful formula of its predecessors. The ensemble team of investigators at Sam’s side is a deeply developed and eclectic bunch with just the right personalities to bounce off each other whilst working but also adding a layer of personal drama to the plot. The subject of the investigation – the serial killer known as the Christmas Angel – is a dark and worthwhile foe who can match Sam and his allies at each turn. K. M. Hardy has done an incredible job of creating a monster whose evil knows no bounds but never strays so far that it feels like a parody. An addictive mystery story, I recommend this book to all.
