Enlarging and expanding upon the Genesis story of Adam and Eve, Edward N Brown has crafted a story that both entertains and enlightens. All the familiar characters and plot twists are there - PLUS SO MUCH MORE! And it's totally relatable. If you were to put yourself in the same situation, you probably would have done the same thing, or something very similar, to what Eve did. In all likelihood, you'd be thinking just like she did.
In this book, Adam's thinking takes back seat to Eve's thinking. Not to say that Eve is the smarter or leader of the two, but the emphasis is on Eve's perception of reality, and how she copes with it all. So, in summary, if you believe in God, but are not quite sure about the whole ‘Creation/Temptation/Fall’ thing, then you need to read this book. Here we see Eve in a new light! My highest recommendation!
Not written from a strictly Evangelical or Catholic perspective, this book is an unbiased account of what may have happened in and outside of the Garden of Eden. The author has attempted to paste together bits and pieces of content from ancient, mostly unknown sources, into a coherent storyline that intrigues the intellect and captures the imagination. And this he has successfully done ̶ based around the thoughts and feelings of Eve.
But make no mistake, this is a Christian-oriented story. Of course, not all Christians share the same viewpoint about the Biblical story, so I'm sure there will be some who say “I don't believe it happened that way.” And that's fine. Neither the source material or the derived narrative are proven to be 100% true. However, the story in this book is interesting in and of itself, regardless of one's religious affiliation (or no affiliation). But Christians will probably get the most fulfillment out of the read.
I found the book to be both suspenseful and enlightening, and would recommend it to anyone interested in further exploring the first romance story in the Bible.
An inspiring story of the world's first couple, told mostly from the viewpoint of Eve. If you've always thought that the Genesis account was a bit one-sided - that Eve got a bum rap, the short straw, so to speak - then think again, and read this book! Brown has done a superb job of flushing out the gory details of what may actually have happened - of course, that's if you believe in the literalness of the story in the first place.
Interestingly, it's not all just a figment of Brown's imagination. Supposedly, all the events are taken from ancient writings of literate people that never made it into the canon of Holy Scripture - and he's included references in endnotes to support all the curious happenings.
It's rare that a novel contains detailed references in endnotes - especially a work of ancient history. But this book breaks the mold. Read this book and soak it all in. You'll be glad you did.
5 stars - This Book is A Gem - A Must Read!... Beautifully written, this book is a must read for all those who desire to have an intelligent, creative, and somewhat magical time with their reading. I did!
A beautiful work of historical drama, this book takes the reader through an interesting and engaging narrative of Adam and Eve's journey of growth and transformation.
Edward N Brown, a gifted storyteller, skillfully weaves the story of how God instilled in Adam and Eve the capacity to soar above their animal instincts and participate in God-tailored experiences that culminate with a harmonious reflection of God's majestic creation and perfect intention.
A very courageous and inspirational story to read … The highlight of the story for me is the narrative. The author has a way with words. There is magic in the way he tells the story, how he describes each scene, and breathes life into it. The way he depicts Eve is so simple and human; I think that is what made her so relatable for me. This is a great story that is incredibly easy to read; enjoyable and educational all at the same time.
