Loved every minute of it!
While I'm a fan of those darker sci-fi classics by Orwell and Heinlein, I like balance it out with fun and lighthearted reads like H2G2. "Space Junk" does just that. I like how alive this world feels, even without much description. Things like how the ship designs range from classic style freighters to glowing Chevy Malibus. I had no idea how recently this was published until I read the Law-forsaken "Steamed Hams" joke, then I nearly discorporated.
Fun and unique plot with equally enjoyable characters, gags, and settings. Honestly it's the best thing since Spacer's Choice Pre-Sliced Bred! (It tastes fresh because it was)
All in all, great fishin' read for any sci-fi nerd that understands both the literary classics and modern Internet humor.
Space Junk by Andrew Bixler is a fun, phenomenal read! From the very beginning the humor, vivid character portrayals, and plot are excellent. Written with a light hand and great energy, Space Junk is a treasure of adventure, mystery, and quirkiness that will cause the reader to laugh and to be deeply intrigued by the infamous mystery object all the forces of power in the universe want to find. The character development of the main character, Adam, is well done. As intended, the reader isn’t sure if they like this scrap collecting character in the beginning but by the end somehow starts to feel proud of him and discovers they have been rooting for him the whole time. Each plot twist is well timed, and the dialogue is rich with comedy and sarcasm. Andrew Bixler wrote a winner with Space Junk.
