The Hauntings of Mr. Poundell
Robert Zeid, author
Shortly before Christmas Foster Kennicott is gruesomely murdered at an abandoned Civil War era house outside Fairborn, Ohio – once a storied station on the Underground Railroad. Chloe Messner, a travel nurse renting from Foster, is swept into the investigation as Chief of Detectives James Barlowe unravels the connections of his macabre slaying to her, a woman whose entry into Foster’s orbit isn’t as coincidental as she claims.
When Foster leaves a video for Chloe to carry on his mission with instructions for the Sisters of the Gathering to come to her defense in the event of his death, she sees the tendrils of a trap. As the investigation intensifies Chloe races against time to clear her name and escape the area. Her reluctance to become more involved with Foster’s plan quickly vanishes when she realizes she is marked for the same fate as Foster by something not of this realm. The trap is sprung. When Chloe hesitantly seeks refuge with the Sisters, they unveil a fantastical world of magic and sisterhood.
She discovers the truth about Foster’s secret from Mr. Poundell, a spirit guide – dead since 1917 – who haunts her dreams with the keys to her freedom bound up in solving a century old mystery steeped in Wiccan ritual, Cherokee lore, and a revenant creature birthed from another realm. When Chloe learns the horrifying truth of what happened in that house in the summer of 1867, she realizes Foster’s motivation and aims to finish what he started.
