In 1989 a young woman struggles to define her own identity in the midst of the duality of her ultra-religious family and the debauchery of the rock and roll culture of San Francisco that she finds herself immersed in. As the pop metal of the 1980s fades into the alternative music scene of the 1990s, she begins to learn how to believe in her own inner voice, create a satisfying new life for herself, and define herself apart from the expectations of her parents and even from the music she loves.
