The Stone the Curse of Mastema by Christine M. Germain is a sequel to The Brother’s Curse and a masterpiece in its own right. The transition into this book was well done, starting with the origin of the stone. This move made it easy for me to follow the story even if I hadn’t read the prequel. The story worked around themes like loyalty, sacrifice, deception, power, sorcery, and mysticism. I loved the fantastic character development. There were many new additions, but I could keep up because Christine adopted a method writing style, and the dialogues were synergistic. I can’t believe that after everything, Cain couldn’t do a simple task. I feel that Trey had nine lives because he was this close many a time. Christine outdid herself on this one!
