This book really hit home for me. I love how it helps children understand better what is happening when their mom is sick and gives ideas for how they can help. It addressed the crankiness, sadness, and grief that can come when moms are sick and overwhelmed, and also acknowledged how it can be hard for the child as well. I felt like it was applicable to both short term and long term illnesses. I would highly recommend this book to anyone with kids!
I loved loved reading this book to my daughter. As a HG sufferer I had something that I could read to my daughter whenever we tried for baby number two (God Willing). However, after recently fracturing my ankle I felt this book was great to help my toddler understand that mummies get sick sometimes too. I felt compelled to forward my new discovery on to friends as I know they feel the overwhelming guilt when they are sick. Please go and buy this book! It’s amazing!
I am not one to write reviews, I think this is only the second review I've ever written. However, this adorable children's book is a MUST HAVE for every parent. It is simply told and beautifully illustrated. It is now my #1 gift for any new mom. I'm ordering it for all my grandchildren! As a nurse practitioner who has also worked in pediatric care for over 20 years, I want to give a great big thank you to the author, J.A. Osborn, for conveying a message that needs to be told to children and adults of all ages! THANK YOU!
I really enjoyed reading this book with my 5 yr old. It prompted a healthy discussion about my illness and how it's affected the family. Perfectly age appropriate with some great coping strategies for kids!
Well written and beautifully illustrated book that bridges a difficult topic. As a former professional counselor, tools like this book are a wonderful and effective buffer for adults and kids to open lines of communication. The drawings and color of the illustrations are eye-catching and rhythmic nature of well placed words keep the pages turning! This book would be an excellent addition to a family / children's bookshelf and an elementary school or community library setting.
