I’m a sap for modernized superhero stories- where there’s big companies that step in to aid heroes with fancy equipment and manage public relations. Especially stories where the focus is ambition and pride and learning to juggle doing what’s right and doing what’s allowed. I feel like Wildfire hits those spots and to have a wonderful cast of enjoyable characters with their own pasts and personalities and surprises is just icing on the cake. ❤️ (I love Abigail so doggone much you don’t even know)
Every time there’s a new hint or a revelation or twist I always get so eager for the next chapter. (Like, no spoilers but Chapter 26?? I was unprepared let me just say)
Without going into too many details so I don’t ruin the surprises - the ending makes me super excited for the next book to come out and I don’t know how long I can wait!!
All in all, it’s a really nice story about Abigail’s internal conflict of trying to be a good by-the-book hero while learning from a sneaky criminal that’s actually a surprisingly good teacher (and maybe more than a mentor 🌚)
10/10 would recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"For the short eternity of their kiss, she saw the wasteland of her dreams come to life." And so goes the narrative of Wildfire, where anyone born with the right genetics can be hero, but where no one escapes their humanity. Follow Abigail (the titular character) as she loses her temper and her job and is forced to deal alternately with the mundanity of paying her bills and the spark she feels for a villain, a would be enemy. Can she walk the tightrope suspended between the extremes of her life and still land on her feet? Read the book.
Having met the delightful author Jordan Keller during an unrelated comic book discussion at a comic book store in Cincinnati, I became enthralled with the discussion about her novel; partly as an avid reader and partly as "would this book become a good movie" to film? I fell in love with the story, the heroine Abigail, and other characters while reading, and am excited to read her next book in the series when it becomes available. My interest did lead to asking could the story become a movie? Absolutely! But the fire work would (will?) take a professional fire worker(s) on sets to handle the practical effects and to protect the actors and property. The story is an original take on comic book super heroes. What if they were in our lives protecting us? Would you want them to protect you? Would you trust them? A tantalizing read that makes you want to know more!
Abigail had everything she wanted: the recognition, the ability to save the citizens of San Arbor, and stop crime. The only she was missing was being a superhero instead of a sidekick. She was living her best life until an event leads her to losing everything. Abigail now finds herself making an unexpected alliance with a villain to help her get stronger... but what will price will she have to pay for doing so? Wildfire is a astonishing story about a superhero who falls from grace and struggles getting back in the public eye while keeping a dark secret. What price will Abigail pay to achieve her dream again? Read for yourself and find out.
Loved the way Keller humorously weaves the everyday trials and tribulations of a rising superhero with a Romeo and Juliet style love story.
Unlike your average flame-throwing crusader, Abigail Turner, aside from ridding the city from the usual bevy of baddies, also has to confront one of the lesser-known dangers a caped hero has to face, dealing with the mystifying muddle of bureaucracy.
Fun read. Highly recommend.
Can’t wait for her next book.
