I offer consultation, developmental editing, and line editing on fiction and nonfiction book-length projects; also on individual short stories and essays. My special interest lies in literary fiction and hybrid works. 

I provide private consultation and instruction in storycraft, process, moral and spiritual support. I can deliver prompts, exercises, and advice on how to navigate the business of being a writer, including use of digital tools, and editorial guidance of all kinds. 

Some of my clients self-publish. In 2012-2013, I was an editor for CreateSpace.com, which was Amazon’s self-publishing operation before it became Kindle Direct Publishing. For CreateSpace, I edited mysteries, thrillers, fantasies, memoirs, westerns, literary, romance, suspense, and more. I have also been teaching at Gotham Writers Workshop since 2013. Students there who have worked one-on-onne with me have gone on to publish with major houses and small houses, journals and anthologies, and to be accepted in top MFA programs.  

I have been working with writers in editorial capacities since 2001, and much of my work has been development of instructional content and curriclum in English Language Arts, Reading and Writing. I hold a BA and MFA in Creative Writing. I was raised by an English teacher, and I've been classroom teacher since 2009, and a private consultant since 2015. I bring production knowledge from 20 plus years working in educational publishing. Which is to say, there is a formal and traditional aspect to my approach which involves rigor around language.

The only service I don't offer is copy editing. I've been a copy editor, and managed copy editors. With a developmental edit, you get corrections to grammar, punctuation, usage and style. But a discreete copy-edit pass is recommended after your rewrites and revisions.

My rates vary. The best way to explore working with me is for us to do a friendly Zoom for the all-important discovery process. Then I can provide a written estimate, share a workflow recommendation and explain scheduling options. I try to do this with all the clarity you’d get from a doctor explaining treatment options.
