I enjoyed this book a great deal. I really did! The story hooked from the beginning. The author's writing style convinced me that this race of super immortals, Paragons they're called, who make sure we all have soul mates, seemed incredible. The book is so well written. I felt pulled into the story, it's wonderfully woven between the real world and their world. Emily is a spitfire. She thinks that she's found the one, but suddenly he's MIA. And she decides to take matters into her own hands. That took spunk. But even so, she's not this flat character, she thinks about what's she's doing and reacts to it in a way that makes her seem so real. And David, he's intense and seems reluctant to put all of his emotions on display. We get know him in bits and pieces, I got the sense that there was a lot more to him than this first book revealed, and that we'll really getting into more of his character in the second book. I loved that the author allowed me to "hear" what was going on in his head, some of the time too. I felt like I could see how this relationship is developing from both POVs. But the story is so much more than these two. Her Paragon protector isn't finished with his work and that sets up such a brilliant twist. And then the humans jump in and start taking actions that he wasn't prepared for, which sets up the killer finish! Each book in the series (so far) is whole and can stand alone. It's the writing that keeps drawing me to the next sequel.

 I am always looking for a great book as I am often waiting at a doctor appointment or at my granddaughter's dance class. My niece was recently reading this book and raved about it. Now I see why. The author delivers a well written story that holds the interest of the reader from start to finish.
The writing is richly done and the author delivers a vibrant read that ensures I'll follow along to the next book. Definitely recommend.

I became enchanted with this story and with author P.S. Meraux's writing with the first book in this series, "Luminary". This is a great story about what happens when soul mates meet and Emily's circumstances as the people that she was "destined" for are gone. In this second book, "Beacon", Emily is given a second chance at this glorious pairing only to find that there are some nearly impossible choices involved. Another great read from Meraux that I found absolutely captivating and I am quite anxious to find out who Emily does end up with. So glad that the 3rd book in this series is out.

I had just finished reading Luminary and now that I finished Beacon, I think I may actually like it even better than the first one - not an easy thing to do. We meet Emily again as well as David, Josh and Charlie. The Paragon in charge of Emily Wren's soulmate is trying to undo some of the wrong that had been done, but suddenly the humans in this little act start to alter the course and in doing so, create a 4 sided love triangle (I realize that might not make sense, but that's what it is). Even though there are elements pulling and trying to wield outcomes, Emily is the one who will have to decide who she wants to love and along the way, there are some very real issues with each of the men she could choose from. Finding a soulmate is tough business apparently.
Again, P.S. Meraux created two separate worlds with crafted and artful detail, though this book focuses mainly in the human world. Her writing style sucks you in and I found I had a lot of trouble putting it down. I was able to connect with Emily and felt her thought process was true to a young woman experiencing the issues she's faced with. Lots of action and excitement. I can't wait to read what comes next!
